Description
Sushi Fashion Restaurant was a dream, a little girl’s dream, a dream I would never expect to become reality. From growing up in a small fisher village in the northern parts of Japan to pursuing my dream in Dubai. It was a rocky road, but we made it! How? Let me tell you...My dad, mom, two brothers and I, grew up in a Funaya (a boathouse) in a small village in the northern parts of Japan. We did not have a lot of money, but I lived a happy life. My mom and I took care of the household, while my dad and my brothers went fishing. Once a week, I was allowed to join in on the fishing trip and I loved it.
When I reached the age of 18, I started to have this feeling inside of me.. a feeling of not belonging somewhere.. an urge to leave a surrounding I was so used to.. an urge to start a life of my own somewhere else. I saved up a little bit of money, but it would never be enough to help me start a life somewhere else. Between the age of 18 and 21, this feeling started to get stronger and stronger. I wasn’t happy anymore.. I was lost. On the day I turned 21, my dad came to me with a present … a bus ticket to Tokyo.. he told me: “Little girl, I want you to be happy.. I want you to follow your dreams. Go and explore the world! One day, we will meet again.”. The next day I packed my bags and left for Tokyo.
I worked 12+ hours a day, 7 days a week, in a fish restaurant in Tokyo. After 5 years of hard work, I saved up enough money to buy a plane ticket to Dubai. Why Dubai, you might ask yourself? Well, when I was in Tokyo, I started to develop my love for fashion. I didn’t have any education, therefore I decided to take evening classes as a fashion designer. Of course, there are big fashion cities to move to Milan... Paris...New York… but all these cities didn’t attract me. In my eyes, Dubai had so much future potential for me.
After completing my fashion study, I took the first plane to Dubai to start my new life. I found a job in a fashion company in Dubai. I loved my job, but at the same time, I missed the connection to my home. I started thinking and thinking.. what I loved about my hometown. I loved going on fishing trips with my family and I loved how my mom and I prepared the fish for dinner and Sunday market. At that moment, I realized I had to combine my passion: fashion, with my hometown: Fish. There are many Sushi restaurants in the region, but none of them can offer you, what I can: I design your appetite.
July 2021, I had the opportunity to open my first store in Gate Avenue Mall, DIFC!
