Pathetic and Untrustworthy for a work which is completely based on trust
We enrolled our son with Sage Admission Consultants for university counselling with high expectations. Unfortunately, our experience was deeply disappointing.
Our journey started with our first counsellor, who was excellent. She patiently explained the entire university application process and conducted a few productive sessions. However, she suddenly left the organisation.
We were then introduced to a second counsellor, who was informed to us as the replacement. In our very first meeting, it became clear that there had been little or no handover. We ended up revisiting topics that had already been covered because the new counsellor appeared unfamiliar with our son’s profile and previous discussions.
The same pattern repeated itself multiple times. We went through five different counsellors during a single admission cycle. Every time a new counsellor joined our case, we effectively had to start from scratch and the only explanation was everything is documented in Google drive! Individually, most of the counsellors were capable, professional and well-intentioned. The issue was not the people, it was the complete lack of continuity, documentation and transition management.
The lowest point came when we arrived for a scheduled session, only to be informed by our counsellor that she had resigned literally five minutes earlier and would not be conducting the meeting. That was an astonishing experience for a service where families are trusting the organisation with one of the most important decisions in a child’s life.
Just when we reached the critical stage of university applications, we received an email stating that we had already completed 26 sessions even though our package included only 20 and hence each session from hereon will be chargeable. While the package terms did mention the session limit, what surprised us was the timing. Every one of those sessions had been scheduled by their own counsellors and not by us and many were effectively repeat sessions because each new counsellor had to rebuild context. A proactive reminder around the 15th or 16th session would have been reasonable. Instead, the notification came only after the limit had already been exceeded and at the most crucial phase of the application process.
At that point, we decided not to continue. After experiencing five counsellor changes, we simply did not have the confidence that the next transition would be handled any better. University admissions require trust and continuity, and unfortunately we no longer had either.
Our package also included SAT coaching. My son found the classes to be of very little value, and we eventually stopped relying on them. Over the next six months, he prepared independently as well as some external help and improved his SAT score by more than 100 points. Despite having played no meaningful role in that improvement, Sage posted his photograph and score on their social media. I had to personally request that they remove the post, which they did.
Overall, this was a disappointing experience. The individual consultants were, for the most part, sincere and capable. The problem lay in the organisation’s processes, continuity, communication and customer management. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend Sage Admission Consultants to families looking for consistent, reliable guidance through the university admissions process.
Had approached a gentleman who’s number is posted on the website, apparently he is travelling and when I asked him to share the contact of someone who I could coordinate with, as its a urgent need writes back saying dont bother me, I am not in town, found it very rude and unprofessional, surely will not recommend to anyone.
I took their GRE Coaching classes, which were excellent because the instructors were competent and educated; my experience with them was excellent.
