Description

It starts with an idea. The idea of a community committed to learning. A community built around the shared pursuit of knowledge. A community built around respect: for ourselves, for each other, and for the world around us.

A home away from home, a house of knowledge.

More than an IB Curriculum school, Dar Al Marefa is a community that empowers every child and enriches their development, giving them the skills they need to become lifelong learners.

We encourage children to become active members of their social communities - members who are knowledgeable, confident and kind.

Dar Al Marefa is an inspiring educational initiative by Al Ghurair and is a top ranked learning institution, and the only bilingual International Baccalaureate Curriculum school in Dubai. In partnership with parents, friends, and the local community, we aim to make a significant contribution to the UAE’s next generation, instilling in them Emirati and Islamic values.

Coordinators secondary

DP coordinator in this school is evil, rude, crude badly behaved and shouts and show bad behavior with parents, students and staff. Many teachers and students left and school tolerates this behavior and don’t take action. I wonder if the board of governors and AlGhurair family aware of this alarming situation as this is toxic. Leadership is weak. Police must be informed about this behavior.

Poor quality of education, bullying

I used to be a teacher at this school and there are few things new secondary teachers should know: teachers work 5 hours straight-either teach 5 hours without breaks or have 3-4 hours classes, plus homeroom hours during break time, (break time is for students, teachers are supposed to communicate with students, do attendance , show some videos and do other things during break time)-this is actually illegal; so if you need to go to bathroom or God forbid, if you want to eat during those 5 hours, then you can be in trouble, coordinators actually come and check whether you are in the classroom during break time, I had to explain myself several times when I went to the bathroom during break time.

The most disturbing thing still was seeing how students from influential families behave and how teachers can’t do anything about it, because administration blames teachers for not having interesting classes, for not trying to build friendship with them and etc. I’ll explain just one of such incidents: one student from the most influential family of this country (it would have been clear if I actually say the surname, but it won’t be safe for myself; you will definitely have people like this in your classroom) decided that my sitting plan wasn’t “comfortable” for her, because she didn’t want to sit next to those students, who aren’t her friends and asked other classmates to support her, while I was trying to explain a new topic she was asking others in Arabic not to reply to my questions and later approached me and was moving in the direction I was looking at to make sure I couldn’t see other students and administration’s reaction was that even more disturbing and pathetic than the one of the student: they told me I couldn’t even register her behaviour on Isams system and punished me with blocking my activities on Isams.
I asked other teachers their opinion about those few students whose behaviour was just unbelievably obnoxious, literally all the foreign teachers had similar experiences with the same students. One math teacher told me to ignore those students because she’d already tried to contact his mother and the latter ignored the teacher, another English teacher gave me an advice not to talk about it with the administration of the school, because when she did she was told that she wasn’t taking an advice and was too defensive, so her conclusion was that there was no point in arguing with the administration and I can say both of those teachers are right, except it’s up to you to decide whether you want to tolerate disrespect or not. Unfortunately many teachers keep ignoring disrespectful behaviour of students, and write positive comments here because they simply don’t have an option, their family is in this country, their kids are learning at this school, I guess teachers mentally accepted such behaviour of students as normal and I probably I would have done the same if I didn’t have incomparably nicer experience at other places.
It’s pity I have to write such a comment, because there were many nice students, except these bullies are actually leading the classrooms, since administration allows that, they silence all the teachers and talks to them using the words of the bullies and describes things from their perspective. This situation is completely different from healthy environments, where the smartest students lead and teachers, psychologists and the school administration (if not parents) work with bullies to change their behaviour. As a homeroom teacher of one of the secondary school classes, I used to get messages about students in my class calling other girls b… words, about cyber-bulling, about the same group of students missing classes, while administration was systematically playing down the seriousness of those incidents and even praising those students on other occasions (that was the most pathetic scene I’ve ever observed at school). This is not a problem of the teacher only, but the students as well, who are well-mannered and polite and have to deal with disrespectful behaviour of their classmates, simply because they’re rich and influential.

Delightful

I was searching for a school for my daughter with a perfect curriculum and reasonable school fees but with no result. My buddy recommended this school to me, and after investigating it, I discovered that their learning processes are excellent, and the school costs are very reasonable.
